How to French Press

French pressing coffee offers several benefits over other brewing methods. Here are benefits to consider:

  1. One of the main benefits of French pressing your coffee is that it allows for greater control over the extraction process. By steeping the coffee grounds in hot water for a specific amount of time, you can adjust the strength and flavor of your brew to your preference. This is because the French press allows the coffee to retain more of its natural oils and flavors, resulting in a richer, fuller-bodied cup of coffee.

  2. Another benefit of using a French press is that it is relatively simple and easy to use. Unlike other brewing methods that require specialized equipment, the French press only requires a few basic tools: a carafe, a plunger, and a heat source. This makes it a convenient option for people who want to brew their own coffee at home or on the go.

  3. Finally, French pressing your coffee is a sustainable and environmentally friendly option. Unlike single-use coffee pods or disposable filters, the French press uses only a small amount of coffee grounds and can be easily cleaned and reused. This reduces waste and helps to support a more sustainable coffee culture.

    General Instructions:

  1. Start by heating your water to just below boiling, around 195-205 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. While the water is heating, grind your coffee beans to a medium-coarse consistency. You'll need about 1-2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces of water.

  3. Once the water is heated, pour a small amount into your French press and swirl it around to preheat the carafe. Then, discard the water.

  4. Add your ground coffee to the French press, and pour in enough hot water to cover the grounds. Stir the coffee and water gently to make sure all the grounds are fully saturated.

  5. Place the lid on the French press, but do not press the plunger down yet. Let the coffee steep for about 4 minutes.

  6. After the coffee has steeped, gently press the plunger down to push the grounds to the bottom of the carafe.

  7. Pour your brewed coffee into a mug or carafe and enjoy! Be careful not to leave the coffee in the French press for too long, as it can continue to extract and become bitter.
